摘要
本文通过翻译实例指出,对外宣传资料翻译成英语时需要注意以下几种情况:不迷信词典,不迷信专家,重点句子重点处理,对查不着的短语可以通过分设、证实或证伪解决,以及句子处理多从目的语读者角度考虑问题。
Based on his experience of translating a university brochure, the present author warns translators against over-reliance on dictionaries or translation experts, and further argues that particular attention should be given to translating key sentences and to the effect of translation on target-language readers. He also puts forward a method for dealing with phrases which can not be found in dictionaries or other reference books.
