A terminological study of the inscribed slips from the Zoumalou site reveals that in the slip texts are a lot of terms never seen in the books handed down from ancient times. For example, "ju qian 具钱" refers to the government-issued standard money; "hang qian 行钱, " the money varied in quantity circulated in the market. "Ping hu 平斛" means the government-issued measuring tools circu- lated in the Wu State; and "lin hu 禀斛 " government-used ones exclusively for grain ration. The "zhou bi 胄毕, " "jiu bi 就毕" and "jiu bi 僦毕" occurring in the records of rent and tax payment are identical in usage and similar in pronunciation. Some words of them might have been formed by using phonetic loan characters, and the "僦" is probably an original character of the word with the meaning of convey.
