In the history of human marriage, Westermarck investigated the forms of marriage very thoroughly. He pointed that the forms of marriage was always restricted by the economical conditions and factors. So the marriage was material in nature but not based on love. We could understand these views through the forms of monogamy, polygyny, polyandry, endogamy and marriage by capture.
