编辑活动是社会文化活动的一个重要组成部分,一定社会在经济、政治、文化和科技方面的发展变革将会直接影响编辑活动的水平并形成其相应特点。现代新闻出版业的产生是编辑活动实现专业化和职业化的有力契机。由于西方现代文化的影响,我国自鸦片战争后至20世纪初期基本完成了编辑活动的近代转型。现代印刷技术的输入、近代意义出版机构的出现以及新式传媒报刊的产生,更新改变了古代编辑出版的传统模式,而传媒公共领域的建构,又从一个侧面为推进社会近代化过程发挥了一定作用。

The editing work is an important component part of the social culture activities. The economic, political, cultural and scientific development could be influence the level and nature of editing work. The arising of modern news press industry gave a turning point to make editing work more professional and independent. Due to the influence from the western culture, modern transformation of China＇ s editing work was be fulfilled from the Opium Wars to the early 20th century. Modem printing technology, publishing institution and new communication media changed the pattern of traditional editing work, and the public sphere played an important role in the process of modem society.
