摘要 本文首先探讨了具有不同目标和研究范围的四种语言研究的基本思路,然后简单比较了Halliday的系统功能语言学和Martin的评价理论,以表明两者在研究目标和范围上的区别。通过比较研究发现,Halliday的系统功能语言学理论是全面的和多层次的,但它仍然受形式范畴化的影响,特别是相对于社会符号范畴化和意义范畴化而言。Martin的评价理论对社会符号系统有比较全面的描述,但需要完善与体现评价系统相关的形式范畴化。 The article first introduces four basic linguistic research approaches with different aims and scopes, and then briefly compares Halliday’s systemic functional linguistics with Martin's appraisal theory to show the differences in the aims of the linguistic research in their theories. Halliday's approach is comprehensive and multi-leveled, but it is restricted by formal categorization. Martin's appraisal theory gives the social semiotic aspects a more comprehensive and systematic coverage, but it needs to perfect the relevant formal categorization that realizes the appraisal system.
