Beloved by Toni Morrison explores the theme of self-construction of black Americans by depicting a magic character-Beloved. On magic and realistic levels, Morrison endows Beloved several different and confusing identities that turn her to be the diachronic and contemporary witness of the slavery evil. Her multi-identities enable her to induce other characters＇memory about the past that they intend to forget. It is believed Beloved plays the role of the ＂Other＂, and with the help of psychoanalysis theory of Lacan, her impact on the self-construction procedure of other characters was analyzed.
