Functions of English Teaching in Quality - oriented Education of Higher Vocational Schools

通过分析高职英语教学与素质教育之间的关系,指出高职英语教学是实施素质教育的重要组成部分。高职英语教学必须立足于“以人为本”,以培养人的素质为教育出发点。高职英语教学的任务不只是培养学生的语言技能,它的教育功能还应当体现在对学生的认知能力、文化素养、主体意识和情感等方面的培养。

This paper briefly analyses the relations between English teaching and quality education It points out that English teaching in higher vocational schools is an indispensable component of quality- oriented education. In English teaching the teachers should try to help the students attain all- round development instead of teaching merely the language skills. Cognition, cultural competence, subject awareness and emotion are all educational factors of great importance that need to be taken into consideration by the English teachers in higher vocational schools.
