This paper, is an attempt to present an introduction to a remarkable American poet Gwendolyn Brooks,the author of more than twenty books of poetry and the first black American to win a Pulitzer Prize in 1950, who is hardly known to Chinese readers. She was universally regarded as a top black poet and a witty poet who satirizes blacks and whites and attacks racial discrimination. She uses black language and rituals to proclaim black solidarity. President Clinton spoke highly of her.
