The Manchu people living in the Qinjiang Village are the descendants of the Manchu Navy soldiers who were stationed in Fujian Province during the Qing Dynasty. According to the villagers' genealogy and inscription, their ancestors were actually the Han people in origin but joined the Manchu troops known at that time as the Eight Banners. In 1979, they were recognized as the nationality of Manchu by the local government and later in the same year the Qinjiang Manchu Villagewas established. This paper analyzes the villagers' identity aa well as their legends and cultural origins on the basis of the author's fieldwork. The author also analyzes the relationship between the selves, the others and the state in the process of their identity, and generally, the dynamic characteristics of the ethnic minority's identity in the background of the modern state.
