以《红楼梦》仿词及杨宪益和霍克斯译文为例,考察了关联理论对这一语言文化现象的解释力和指导意义,并总结出一个比较适合于考察和指导仿词及类似语言文化现象翻译的框架。在这个框架中,语境、译者努力、读者需要等因素都各得其所,也可以避免关于译文孰优孰劣的诸多主观争论。

Through analyzing the construction and translation of calques and Yang Hsienyi＇s and Hawkes＇ translated versions, this paper discusses the explanatory and instructive power of Relevance Theory over linguistic and cultural phenomena such as calques and provides a comparatively suitable framework for translation of such phenomena. In this framework, many factors including context, translator＇s effort and readers＇ need are properly placed and debates over which translated version is better can hopefully be avoided.
