近代中国教会学校的评价一直为学界所关注。传统观点把它看作帝国主义对中国进行文化侵略的工具;新近又有观点把它看作是中国近代教育的开篇。两种观点均为笼统分析,难免偏颇。教会学校在近代中国历史的不同时期有着不一样的地位和作用。与定性分析相比,根据不同历史时期教会学校的具体情况,作出实事求是的判断,更为可取。

The evaluation of neoteric Chinese church - sponsored schools has been receiving the attention of the acadertuic circles. It is traditionally held that they were tools utilized by imperialists for cultural aggression against China. Recently there have been viewpoints that they were the beginning of neoteric Chinese education. In effect, those schools had played different roles in different periods of history. It is more advisable to analyze then from this perspective and come to conclusions.
