Translation of English Figurative Idioms Based on the Contrastive Study of English and Chinese Languages

习语的适当运用能使语言丰富而具有表达力度。但由于英汉两种语言的文化背景不同,同样的形象,比喻意义也是有同有异。这些异同在汉英对比研究的分析下更加清晰,从而对习语的翻译提供充分的参考。本文从比喻性习语英汉对比研究的角度论述了英语习语的翻译。

The proper use of idioms can give life and richness to the language. Because of the different cultures of English and Chinese, the same image of both languages may have different figurative meanings. The contrastive study of Chinese and English makes this phenomenon much clearer which provides effective reference to the translation of idioms. Therefore, this article argues the translation of English figurative idioms based on the contrastive study of English and Chinese.
