Main characteristics of Artificial Neural Network （ANN） and the principle of back-propagation algorithm （BP） were introduced. The application of ANN in diagnosis and forecasting of plant disease and insect was also summarized. Some view points that should be paid attention to for the improvement of prediction precision were discussed in the end.
