The Explanation of the Chinese Character 脘 (Wan)

论文从形、音、义分析“脘”的词源义,认为它与“宛”为同源词。“脘”的词义从“胃腔”一直引申发展,进一步可指心、心思。

This thesis analyzes the etymon, sound and acceptation of the Chinese character Wan（脘） to quest for its etymological meaning. It finds that Wan（脘） and Wan（宛） are paronyms. The acceptation develops all the time, from stomach extending to mood and mind.
