评价理论是系统功能语言学关于人际意义研究的新发展。本文以Martin的评价理论为基础，结合叙事学理论．以海明威的短篇小说《在异乡》为例，探讨小说叙事的评价资源及其体现，从而有助于对小说主题的深刻理解。

Appraisal theory is a recent development for studying interpersonal meaning in functional grammar. On the basis of appraisal and narratology theory, the paper attempts to explore the appraisal resources and means in short fiction ＂In Another Country＂ by Hemingway. This will contribute to understanding the theme of the fiction deeply.
