As a part of diasporic Chinese living ovemeas,Chinese Ameriean women writers,on the one hand, show a keen intert in their ethnic culture, and a determination to introduce it to the world through writing;but on the other,in order to be melted into the mainstream culture, and to get an identity of their own, they exhibit an alienation from the Chinese culture. Hence,Chinese culture/Mother is seen as "other" ,and to some degree becomes a twisted image in their writing. The present paper starts from the analysis of the rehtionship between the writers' dilemma of the dual identities and the causes of their alienation from "Mother", trying to point out how they depict Chinese culture/mother as the vague and imperious "other". Based on the above analyses, the writer of this paper concludes that in order to be a member of the mainstream culture and become a real American writer, some Chinese women writers have actually fallen unconsciously into the group of American Orientalists.
