Shanghai Yangtze river tunnel is a part of the Shanghai Yangtze River Tunnel and Bridge project (Chong Ming Island River Crossing Project), which is intended to be completed within 5 years and will cost 12.6 billion RMB.It is constructed by the Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Corporation.The tunnel construction is marked with“ long, large, deep”, which starts from Pudong, meets at the circle line in the suburb and passes through Yangtze river’s south harbor region,with a total length of 8.9km. There are 2 shield machines applied in the tunnel excavation,which are manufactured by the Herrenknecht from Germany.The shield has a diameter of 15.43m, total length of 134m and weight of 3000t ,which is the largest diameter shield available for excavation projects by far, the length of one drive is 7.5km and is the longest distance currently in China.
