There were the figures of "woman disguised as man" both in Shakespearian works and in Chinese ancient literary works. There were two purposes for them to change their dress, namely "defence" or "offence". They guarded against that a man may harm their virginity, or they might attack into the society that was guarded by the male sex to render meritorious service and make a distinguished career. After changing dress, some of them could consciously do according to man's behavioural standards, so as to further correspond with a man's dignity ,while some of them only slipped on male's clothes, but what she did was still of "her former self". Behind their different purposes, it concealed the common values and behaviour standards of the male society.
