《现代汉语词典》第5版在完善释义表述的科学性方面主要采取了以下的修订方式:一、原释义表述的增补。二、原释义表述的删汰。三、原释义表述的增删并举。四、原释义表述语序的调整。五、旧版释义表述的彻底置换。第5版的释义表述也存在以下一些有待进一步完善的地方:一、依然没有把一些词语现在普遍使用的意义表述出来。二、一些词语释义表述中的部分文字依然不够准确、恰切。三、一些新的做法没能贯彻始终。
