在强调高分子材料向高性能化、高功能化、复合化、精细化和智能化方向发展的基础上，较详细地评述了高分子合成技术的发展。三大合成材料（即塑料、合成橡胶、合成纤维）工业的现状与趋势，以及未来高分子材料发展中几个重要的领域：工程塑料、复合塑料、液晶高分子、高分子分离材料和生物医用高分子材料。

Polymeric materials are rapidly developing in the direction of higher performance and being functional,composite, fine,and intelligent. In this paper,the development of the synthesis technology of polymers. the state and tendency of production of the three familiar categories of polymeric materials (i. e. plastics, rubber and fibers ). and the future developing frontiers of the polymeric materials such as engineering plastics, polymeric composites.liquid crystalline polymers,polymeric separation-using materials .and biological and medical polymeric materials are reviewed.
