August Wilson is believed to be the fourth greatest playwright after Eugene O' Nell, Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller. He learned by himself all the way from a dropout to the most successful African - American playwright. Wilson turned himself from a dropout into a most successful African - American playwright. He claims to be a cultural nationalist. His epic 10 - play cycle, rooted in black culture, ennobles the black experience and affirms the long neglected value in the American blacks. Wilson on several occasions has talked about the most important influence on his work-the four B's, the acceptance and development of which has helped form his dramatic vision.
