As a religion, Daoism greatly values life and has a unique view of the value of life. It emphasizes the mutual necessity of form and spirit and combining life with the Dao as one. It believes that in order to achieve immortality one must pacify the spirit and consolidate the form via the dual practice of both inherent nature and life force. Within the Daoist understanding of life, the most obvious aspect is its heavy emphasis on life and its rejection of death, which forms its very cornerstone.
