The application of pattern language to eastern and western painting results in their different features in artistic manifestation. These differences are based on the profound cultural sources which are always neglected. Concerning the art of painting, most of youth prefer to its style and skill which is becoming the greatest danger in our painting practice. In fact, the manifestation of pattern is interacted with cultural conception. By way of old form language, we may get to know and understand the past time, people＇ s mind and interest. And we may find some connections with the contemporary time. And the old form language may help us realize life and retrospect more clearly. We should make every effort to explore the cultural sources on which the manifestation of pattern is based. Only doing so can we inherit and develop the traditional paintings.
