Studies on Translation Process from a Cultural Perspective

翻译过程的复杂性不仅仅源于语言的异质性,更重要的是源于语言赖于生存的社会文化语境的相异性,因而,翻译是一个受各种文化因素影响和作用的动态的、复杂的过程。本文重点分析了影响翻译过程的四个文化因素:语言因素、语言所承载的文化意义、原语文本的承载的社会文化背景以及目的语语境因素。该分析旨在揭示翻译过程的艰巨性,重新认识翻译作为跨文化交流和对话手段存在的价值和意义。

The complexity of inter- lingual translation process lies in the diversity of language and culture. Translation is not only a matter of language, but a matter of culture as well. The dynamic process of translation is affected by many cultural factors. This paper analyzes four of the major cultural factors： languages involved, cultural connotations of the words, the background of the source language text and the acceptability of the translated text in the target language cultural context. The purpose is to help gain a better understanding of the nature and the value of translation as a means of cross - cultural communication.
