Love Expectation,Perplexity and Appreciation——Interpreting the Theme of Mariko Hayashi's To Catch up with the Last Airplane and Going to Kyoto

《只要赶上末班飞机》和《京都行》是日本女性作家林真理子的文学代表之作。这两部短篇小说皆再现了一个“爱”的主题,即自一开始的“爱的理想”,到恋爱过程中的“爱的困惑”,最终走出困境,找到“爱的解答”。通过这一主题的选择与建构,林真理子一方面打破了日本传统的女性形象,另一方面深刻反映了现代女性追求自我、走向独立的精神轨迹。

To Catch up with the Last Airplane and Going to Kyoto are two short stories written by Japanese female writer Mariko Hayashi, in which she interprets the theme of ＂love＂ in three stages, namely, love expectation, love perplexity and love appreciation. By doing so, she changes the traditional images of Japanese women as well as manifests the spiritual way in which modem women seek independence.
