On Consumerism and Its Harm

消费主义是根植于西方消费社会的超越人的生存实际需要、崇尚物欲的一种社会意识形态。消费主义在强调物质占有,刺激经济增长的同时,对经济社会的健康发展具有极大的破坏性。发展中的中国社会仍处于“百姓国度”,尤其要警惕消费主义的危害。

Consumerism is rooted in the Western consumer society which is beyond the practical needs of survival, and is a social ideology desiring for material welfare. Consumerism is harmful to the healthy development of our society though it stimulates economic growth with its stress on material possession. China now is still a developing country and all should be alert of its harm.
