Readers are familiar with Lin Yutang＇ s literary works. The academic focus on his linguistic achievement is mainly on phonology. With evidence of Lin＇ s achievement on modem Chinese dialect, it is concluded in the paper that Lin Yutang, as a great linguist, contributes greatly to the establishment and development of modem Chinese dialect.
