视频压缩技术的出现促进了数字电视的发展。从数字电视广播的首次实现入手，介绍了机上变换器在卫星直播和ＣＡＴＶ中的应用。由于数字电视的极大优势及迅速发展，国外多家著名制造厂商已涉足机上变换器的开发、生产与销售。

The emergence of video compression technology has been promoted the development of digital TV.Starting from the first implementation of digital TV broadcasting,the applications of set top converters in DBS and CATV are described in this paper.Due to the major advantages and rapid development of digital TV,a lot of famous makers are involved in the development,production and marketing of set top converters.
