町屋是日本中世以来城市住宅的典型样式,具有丰富的民族文化内涵。作为日本独特的历史文化和自然气候条件的产物,它的设计清晰地反映了日本传统的自然主义建筑观。该文以“京町家”为例,从建筑用材、布局和室内装饰等多方面探讨了日本传统城市住宅特有的空间意象及其对京都等城市的景观意象的影响,并与同时期的中国江南民居建筑进行了对比,以揭示影响传统人居环境设计的一些共同因素。

Base on a profound culture background, Machiya becomes the model of Japanese urban residence in the middle age It is a response to its natural and social environment： its weather, its geography, its history and culture, and mostly, its harmony with nature. The paper inquires into the space image and its Influence to the city image （Kyoto as the representative） with viewpoints of materials, layout, interior decoration and so on, further makes a comparison between Kyote Machiya and Chinese vernacular house of same period to show some common elements which is strictly related to the design of human dwelling.
