知人论世:“言”—“人”—“世”理解的循环

在孟子那里,“论世”与“颂其诗”,“读其书”一样,本来也是一种“知人”的方法,目的在于上与古人为友。但是,由于的孟子的表述中事实上存在着一个“言”—“人”—“世”理解的循环,所以,它自然而然地就转化为了文学批评的方法,并与“知人”结合在一起,构成了中国文学批评史上最典型的社会批评方法。
