On the Hollow Course——A Critique of the Foreign Language Education in the Chinese HE System

课程以知识系统为应然之心,有应然之心者是实心课程,无应然之心者是空心课程。空心课程在现代高等教育课程体系中已经是一种实然存在;在中国,空心课程源于外语教育,是外语教育失败的根本原因。空心课程危害的不止是外语教育,而是整个高等教育甚至整个中国文化。

The course contains a knowledge system as its necessary content, that with the necessary content is the substantial course and that without the necessary content is the hollow course. The hollow course is an actual existence in the curriculum system of modern higher education, and in China, the hollow course originates in the foreign language education and makes a fundamental cause of the failure of the foreign language education. The hollow course does harm not only to the foreign language education, but also to the total higher education and even to the Chinese culture.
