Characteristics of the Negro Renaissance

黑人文艺复兴是20世纪二三十年代以美国黑人文化"首府"纽约黑人聚居区哈莱姆为中心,由黑人知识分子和文学艺术精英们所发动的一场旨在通过艺术作品弘扬黑人传统文化、提高黑人民族自尊心、争取黑白融合的文化运动。黑人文艺复兴使美国黑人变成一个对美国文学艺术做出卓越贡献的少数民族,树立了新黑人形象,极大地提高了黑人的社会自我意识、民族自豪感和自信心。黑人成为世界大舞台上的一成员,极大地拓展了国际间的文化与社会交往。

Negro Renaissance is an African American cultural movement of the 1920s and the early 1930s that was centered in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. ＂Negro Renaissance＂ intelligentsia committed themselves to the revival and flourish of Black Culture and the cultivation of Africa-Americans＇ selfrespect so as to integrate themselves with American Whites into American society. This paper aims to examine some of the basic research questions such as the definition, the beginning, the major contents and characteristics, the significance and influence of the Negro Renaissance characteristics of this cultural movement.
