摘要
铁路筹建与清末广西边防之间有着错综复杂的关系,这一方面反映了近代中国铁路建设的动力特征,另一方面也反映了中国近代社会半殖民地化的历史特征。由于中央政府与广西地方政府着力统筹的全局存在着不同的出发点,因此,尽管都认识到铁路筹建在广西边防建设中的重要地位,也认识到铁路筹建和边防建设的紧迫性,但包含完整铁路网在内的近代战略交通网络并未能在广西最终形成,也没有在近代国防体系中占据应有的地位,这是近现代广西社会乃至西南社会多种因素交相作用的必然结果。
There was an intricate and complex relation between preparations for railway construction and Guangxi's frontier defense during the last years of the Qing Dynasty, which reflects on the one hand the character of impetus of modern China's railway construction and on the other hand the historical features of the semi-colonization of modern Chinese society. Because of the different starting points of the central government and Guangxi local government, though there existed consensus on the importance and the urgency of the preparations for railway construction in Guangxi frontier defense, the modern strategic communications network including railway network did not come into being at last in Guangxi and did not occupy the necessary position in modern national defense, which was the inevitable result of the interaction of all sorts of factors of modern Guangxi and the Southwest society at large.
