The Diversity of Language and the Compilation of Chinese Dictionaries

把词典分为“规定型词典”和“描写型词典”并不能解决很多问题,汉语词典史上并没有泾渭分明的“规定”和“描写”,国外词典编写也存在多种不同的情形。立足汉语研究与词典编纂的关系、语言多样性与词典描写性的关系,我们在思考:汉语词典,一体化还是多样性?

Dividing dictionaries into the prescriptive type and the descriptive type is of little significance to solving problems in lexicography. There is no clear boundary between entire prescriptivism and entire descriptivism as revealed by the history of Chinese dictionary compiling. Dictionaries of foreign languages also present various cases in this respect. Bearing in mind the relation between the study of the Chinese language and dictionary compiling and the relation between the diversity of language and the descriptiveness of dictionaries, we are considering which route the compilation of Chinese dictionaries should take, integration or diversity？
