邓小平关于社会主义的一般原则可归纳为,发展生产力是首要原则,公有制占主体和共同富裕是根本原则,按劳分配是重要原则。社会主义原则与社会主义本质、社会主义特征分别从实现形式、性能和表现形式三个层面共同回答了什么是社会主义。建设中国特色社会主义,除了要遵循和坚持社会主义一般原则外,还必须坚持四项基本原则。

Deng Xiaoping＇s socialism principles can be summed up as follows： The development of production is primary, the public ownership in a dominant position and common prosperity are fundamental, the distribution according to work is important. The socialism principle, essence and characteristic answer a same problem of what is socialism respectively from the level or angle of realization, function and manifestation. In the course of the construction of Chinese characteristic socialism, the above general principles as well as the Four Fundamental principles should be observed and stuck to.
