The article intoduces the nature, objectives,tasks,organization and evolution of CAS; activities of successive Councils; character, emphasis, and methods of CAS work as well as the author,s opinion.The establishment of CAS is a product of reform and economic development, which indicates national construction and development demand services provided by sound and scientific archives work.To do service well,it is necessary to strengthen academic research of a mass.character,constantly raise archivists academic and professional qualification in order to promote the develop ment of archival science and archival cause, so as to provide better services to the central work and various other work.At present, CAS and its branches, local and professional, as a component part of the archival cause, are continuing to explore suitable ways of carrying out academic research of a mass character under the leadership of the State Archives Bureau
