Peixing's Taoist Sentiment and the Preaching Inclination in Chuan Qi

晚唐作家裴鉶的文言小说集《传奇》是一部在中国小说史上有着重要影响的著作,长期以来一直被治小说史者所重视,因为它成了唐代小说的文体共名。其实,这部小说的作者裴鉶是一个具有道教情怀的文人,而他所创作的小说集《传奇》,是一部顺应崇道潮流、宣传道教文化、神仙思想的作品。

Peixing, a writer of Taoist sentiment in the late Dang Dynasty, composed a collection of stories in classical Chinese——Chuan Qi, which exerted great influence on the history of Chinese novels and long received much attention from literary historians because the title of the collection turned to be the name of a genre coveting the sto- ries of the Tang Dynasty. In fact, this collection is a literary work that goes with the tide of worshipping Taoism and propagates Taoist culture and beliefs in immortals.
