哥老会与光绪十七年“长江教案”

光绪十七年,哥老会在长江中下游沿岸城镇开展了一系列反对外国教会的斗争,史称“长江教案”。斗争最初发生在扬州,后迅速蔓延到芜湖、江阴等地。与以往教案不同,在“长江教案”中,哥老会不仅把斗争矛头指向外国教会,而且也准备对清王朝进行“武器的批判”,从而把反对外国教会的斗争提升到了一个前所未有的新高度。

In the year of Guangxu 17 （1891）, the Society of Brothers started a series of struggles, called ＂the Yangtze River Missionary Case＂, against the foreign churches along the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. The struggles, beginning in Yangzhou City, rapidly spread to Wuhu, Jiangyin and other places. Different from t~ the former missionary cases, Yangtze River Missionary Case＂ was meant not only to aim at the foreign churches but also to implement ＂an armed charge＂ upon the Qing Dynasty, thus promoting the struggles against the foreign churches to an unprecedented altitude.
