Chengdu's Historic Superiority Seen from the Selection of Its Townsite

成都是一座拥有2400余年建城史和近150年建都史(不含古蜀王国)的历史文化名城。由于其城址经过历代蜀人的艰辛开发和探索,选择在平原广阔、交通便利、水源丰富、地形有利、气候温润、物产丰盈的成都平原中心,符合了中国古代城址选择的原则,适应了城市发展的需要,此后不断兴修的水利工程更使其锦上添花,故历经2300余年从未转移,这无论是在中国城市史还是世界城市史上,都是不多见的。

As a famous historic and cultural city, Chengdu boasts its city construction history of more than 2400 years and the history of about 150 years in which Chengdu was chosen as the capital of various dynasties. Neither China＇s city history nor the global one has seen any other cities but Chengdu, which has remained unmoved over the past 2300 years just because it lies in the center of the smooth and vast Chengdu Plain with abundant water sources, good position, easy traffic network, warm and mild climate and plentiful produces and the later consecutive construction of irrigation systems, all of which coincide with the ancient townsite selection principles and meet the requirement of the city development.
