Cysteine-rich secretory proteins (CRISPs) is a highly conserved protein family in evolution. They are predominantly found in male reproductive tracts of mammal and other organisms. However, their functions remain unknown. In the past ten years, studies have revealed that CRISPs were also widely distributed in venoms of some reptile and mollusc and could block Ca^2+, K^+ and cyclic nucleotide-gated ion channels. Besides, they also displayed proteolytic activity. Progresses of several venom-derived CRISPs were reviewed briefly.
