On Commonness and Difference of Metaphor in English and Chinese in Cognition

隐喻(Metaphor)是英语常用的一种修辞格,是语言中最重要的表达手段之一。运用隐喻,能形象而概括地说明问题,使语言生动、鲜明、富有表现力与感染力。通过对英汉两种语言中隐喻概念的分析比较,我们发现隐喻作为人类基本的认知活动具有其共性和差异。在此,我们将对存在的这些共性和差异进行一些探讨。

Metaphor is a usual rhetorical case in English , and it is one of the most important means of expression. By using the metaphor, we can epitomize problems visually, and can make language vivid, brilliant, and full of the expressive and infective forces. Through the analysis and comparison of the metaphor concept in both Chinese and English, we find that, as the essential tool of human beings in the cognitive activities, the metaphor has its commonness and difference. Thus,we shall make some discussion on these commonness and differences.
