纳兰性德是清代最优秀的词人之一,也是清代有见解有实绩的编辑家之一。他编辑出版了《通志堂经解》、《今词初集》等丛书和专集。纳兰性德编辑思想的特点,其一是敢于以个人的微薄之力,编辑出版大型学术研究丛书,把一项需要众多经学专家完成的繁难的文化学术工程预想变成了现实。其二是他明确地提出了“吾人选书,不必务博,专取精诣杰出之彦,尽其所长,使其精神风致涌现于楮墨之间”的编辑原则,并以很高的艺术鉴赏力实践了这个原则。他的编辑出版活动有着切实而明确的目的,那就是自觉地为维护和巩固清王朝的思想统治基础服务,热忱地为发展文化学术事业和文学艺术事业而尽自己的绵薄之力。

Nalan Xingde was one of the best poets and the editors who had both novel views and practical achievements in Qing Dynasty. He published The Exposition of the Literature Works from the Hall of Realized Ambition, An Early Collection of Current Poems, a series of books and anthologies. One of the features of his editorial ideas was that he endeavored to publish the large--scaled scientific research series all by himself. Another was that he clarified the merits of the authors are of greater significance, and he practiced this idea with superb artistic appreciation. His editorial activities had a clear and practical destination, i.e., to protect the basis of ideological rule of Qing Dynasty consciously and did his utmost for the development of the cause of culture and science, literature and art zealously.
