What Should We Think of the Mistakes the Party Made in the Period from the Founding of New China to the Eve of the Third Plenum of the Eleventh Central Committee? (first part)

认识、分析、撰写党在新中国成立后至十一届三中全会前所犯的错误,很重要的一条是正确分析和评价毛泽东同志在这一过程中所起的作用和应负的责任。这不仅是尊重历史客观的需要,也是正确总结教训、以资今日之鉴戒所必需的。

In our studies of the mistakes the Party made in the period from the founding of the PRC to the eve of the Third Plenum of the Eleventh Central Committee, we must have in mind two points: first, make clear the contents of mistakes, and second, analyze the causes of mistakes. The purpose is to sum up lessons in order not to repeat these mistakes. This paper makes analyses of the subjective and objective causes for the three big mistakes committed by the Party of impatience for quick results in economic construction, impatience for purity in ownership structure and erroneous extension of class struggle and then puts forward the overall appraisal of the 29-year history of the PRC. The author points out that we should treat the more than fifty years of the history of the PRC as an organic whole and see the dialectical relationship between historical faults and progress.
