John Ashbery is the representative poet of American New York School which is a branch of the post-modernist poetry. In his poems, various post-modernistic factors are mixed together, by which Ashbery tries to excavate the essence of the poetic writing. This thesis focuses on the intertexuality, parody, and amused reading in Ashbery＇ s poems; makes super-text analysis and finally discovers that in Ashbery＇ s poems, the real meaning is lost in the infinite signifiers. Only by the absorption of and the comparison with the traditional poetry, can the real meaning of Ashbery＇ s poems be discovered.
