The latest collaboration between John Adams and Peter Sellars is the two-act opera/oratorio A Flowering Tree,which received its world premiere at the Vienna Festival on 14.November.It was also the centrepiece of the New Crowned Hope Festival.The story is an Indian folk tale about sorcery and love：A girl has magical powers to transform herself into a tree with wondrous flowers;a prince sees her and weds her,and the flowers bring them happiness and protection.But the prince＇s jealous sister desecrates the tree,and the girl became destitute.In the end,the fairytale ends with lovers reunited and bealth restored.This plot goes totally hand in hand with our current multicultural environment.A Flowering Tree will be performed subsequently at the Barbican Centre（London）.Lincoln Center （New York）,and by the San Francisco Symphony and Berlin Philharmonic.
