With practical projects, the author introduces the design principle and construction technology of strengthening soft foundation by shallow-dense sand piles on the river bank. including the selection of machinery and plant for the piles, determination of installation parameters, and results of tests on the sand compaction piles. The fulfillment proves that the shallow-dense sand pile could be used in treatment soft foundation on the river bank. Its feasibility and economy are proved in practice and it is worth to be applied widely.
