毛泽东发展了马克思主义的社会理想观．他明确区分了社会主义社会和共产主义社会的基本特征；指出共产主义社会虽然是人类最美好的社会．但也是充满着矛盾的社会；认为共产主义社会一定能够实现．但也不会在一国首先实现；认为共产主义社会的实现必须分阶段进行．但阶段的划分应该根据各国的不同情况而有所区别。

MAO Ze-dong has inherited and developed Marxist social ideal. He clearly distinguishes socialist society from communist society, points out that communist society is full of contradictions though it is the most beautiful human society,and believes that communist system is bound to be realized but not in a singular country. He also holds that the realization of communism has some stages, the division of which differs in different countries with different situations.
