The Influence of Confucianism on the Moral Instruction for Women in Early Modern Japan

近世是日本女训发展的全盛时期,根据训诫对象的不同,这些女训大致可以分为面向上层女性和面向庶民女性的两类。然而,无论哪一类日本女训,都深受中国儒家思想的影响。这主要体现在三个方面:强调孝敬公婆、重视贞节观和宣扬阴阳乾坤说。

The Moral Instruction for Women gained extensive development in early-modern Japan. According to the target readers, the books of moral instruction for women were divided into two categories ： those for the upper class and those for the lower class. Yet they were both influenced by the Confucian ideology from China, as is reflected in emphasizing： （1） filiality to parents-in-law, （2） chastity, and （3） the yin-yang principles of the universe.
