随着中国建筑师和学者参与的国际建筑交流活动日益增多以及在交流活动中的主动性增强，特别是中国当代建筑师及其实践日益受到国际媒体和欧美著名展览空间的关注．中西建筑跨文化交流的现象也开始得到学界的研究和重视。为此，《时代建筑》以“对话：中西建筑跨文化交流”作为本期的主题，就试图在中西建筑跨文化交流的历史和当前的交流活动之中，探讨”对话：中西建筑跨文化交流”的前景及其对中国建筑的影响。
