Man-eating Custom and Baiyue Culture

百越各族曾居住于中国的东南部,他们创造了丰富多彩的文化,也留下了许多古老的习俗,而食人俗就是其中出现过的一种较野蛮的习俗。本文通过文本记载和田野材料的分析,阐明了食人俗产生的背景和社会心理,并进一步探讨它消亡的历史必然性,从而在某种程度上见证了百越民族从野蛮到文明的历史过程。

The minor nationality called Baiyue, once lived in the southeast of China. It had created a colorful culture, and meanwhile left many ancient customs, one of which was the barbaric man - catlng custom. Through the analysis of the historical records and the field materials, this paper elucidates the background and the sociM psychology which the man - eating custom produced, and further discusses the historical inevitability which has died out. Thus, to some extent, the man - eating custom witnsses Baiyue＇ s historical process from barbarity to civilization.
